Daniel L. Sambursky, MD, F.A.C.S. has been instrumental in the development of laser vision correction over the past 20 years. In the early 1990s, he participated in the Excimer Laser Surgery investigational trials and was one of the first eye surgeons in the country to perform LASIK.
Dr. Sambursky received his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical School. He completed an internship at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital program in internal medicine and received ophthalmology and ocular surgery training at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, & Throat Hospital, one of the top ten surgical training programs in ophthalmology. During this training, he served as chief resident. Dr. Sambursky completed a fellowship in refractive and corenal surgery at the Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the top ophthalmology program in the world.
During his career, Dr. Sambursky has performed many thousands of LASIK procedures and more than 9,500 cataract surgeries. He has been a resident instructor at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, teaching dozens of ophthalmologists the latest techniques in refractive, cataract, and corneal surgery.
Dr. Sambursky designed and patented an intraocular lens used in cataract surgery. He has also designed several surgical instruments used during eye surgery. He was also one of the first surgeons in the country to use laser technology to remove a cataract.
John D. Iamele, OD earned his undergraduate degree from New York University in 1984. He did his graduate work at the State University of New York College of Optometry, earning a doctorate of optometry in 1988. After graduation, he accepted a position at SUNY as an assistant clinical professor and worked there for the next 16 years. After leaving SUNY, Dr. Iamele joined the staff at Kelly Vision Center.
Dr. Iamele also has a private practice in Huntington, New York. He is licensed to treat a variety of eye conditions, including glaucoma. However, his practice primarily focuses on treating debilitating corneal conditions and refractive surgical comanagement.
During his career, Dr. Iamele has comanaged thousands of refractive surgery patients in conjunction with some of the leading surgeons in Long Island and Manhattan. He regularly attends continuing education programs in order to stay abreast of the latest developments in refractive surgery. From July 1999 to June 2001, he was president of the Suffolk County Optometric Society.
