 Contacts? Not for me...
I’ve had vision problems since I was a kid. It’s something that's always been there. I had glasses, but I never wore them because they were a nuisance. I never wore contacts because I didn’t like the whole idea of sticking something in my eye.
Lots of creepy doctors out there…
I first heard about the surgery about three years ago. The first place I went to I didn’t like it. It was too expensive. Then a year ago my girlfriend was nagging me to get it done, so I went to see another prominent doctor who’s always on the radio, and it was horrible. My girlfriend was like, "No way, you're not getting it done here." It was like cattle herding. The prices were all crazy. So I was like no, it just sucked. So I heard Dr. Kelly on the radio and when I first went in, I knew right away I could trust him with my eyes. The office was relaxed and comfortable and I got to ask lots of questions.
I was kind of apprehensive about not being able to see afterwards. It’s like skydiving– yeah something can go wrong, but the risks are so low. And my sister had it done and she was happy with it. I was more apprehensive about the money.
Didn’t realize what I was missing, until after the surgery…
I didn’t realize how bad my eyes were until after the surgery. Before things were fuzzy. And vision helps when I’m landing. And after I looked out the plane window, I was like wow this is what I was missing. It was amazing. It helped my jumping. Now I don’t have to second-guess myself.
There was minimal preparation, and then about 45 minutes after the surgery I was a little uncomfortable – just minor stinging. Then the next morning it was great. I was able to wake up and see the TV instantly.
My vision has been continually getting better. It’s awesome that I can see now because vision is not an issue anymore, which is cool.
I get to make fun of my girlfriend now because I have better vision.
Look, before you leap...
I’ve told the people I jump with about the procedure and recommend Dr. Kelly and told them that Dr. Kelly has the answers for them. And that I did a lot of research for my own good before choosing Dr. Kelly.
My best dive of all...
The staff was super helpful, and as soon as I walked in the door I knew that I was going to do the surgery with Dr. Kelly. And you know what’s was really cool, is that Dr. Kelly was so excited about the new technology just like I’m excited about skydiving. He was just so excited to show me all the technologies, and it was just so obvious that he loves to help people and he’s really into what he does. He really cares and it's so personal. That’s why I let him work on me.
